James “Jim” Lee Pierson passed away peacefully on Saturday June 19, 2021 at the age of 75 surrounded by his loving family. A Celebration of Life will be held in Oklahoma at a future date.
Jim was born to S.J. & Jerry Pierson on February 6, 1946 in Carmi, Illinois. Jim achieved the Eagle Scout rank. Jim graduated from Pauls Valley Highschool in Oklahoma in 1963 where he lettered in basketball, golf and football along with being voted ‘most popular’ his Senior year. He then obtained a BS in Biology/Chemistry from Central State University in Edmond, OK. It was during college when he first met his future wife, Charlotte Ann Donaho and about a year later married the love of his life on July 23, 1966 in Sulphur, OK. He treasured Charlotte beyond measure and she had to be careful in telling him that she liked something in a store, because it would magically just appear a few days later for her. Jim adored his daughters, Rachael Henry and Jennie Teeter and their families. He was a stronghold to them and provided a Godly example. He additionally provided them the opportunity for a higher education from Oklahoma State University. Jim was a faithful Christian in all respects always leading his family in their Christian walk.
Jim was a humble proud veteran of the US Navy from 1966-1970 serving as a Medical Corpsman. He served in the Philippines and on the Battleship New Jersey off the coast of Vietnam, followed by the naval air station at Point Magu in Oxnard, California.
Afterwards, Jim pursued a career in oilfield safety where he obtained the highest certification honor of being a Certified Safety Professional along with a high recognition for saving a life in Oklahoma of man that just recently turned 90. His career allowed him the unique opportunity to travel around the world. His travels included places such as Oklahoma, Texas, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Alaska, Azerbaijan, Malaysia, China and North Dakota. Over his career, he was invited back to several of these locations more than once. His counsel to those he worked with was respected and his mentorship to many foreign nationals was solid.
Jim’s hobbies included reading his Bible, spending time at ponds fishing, clearing brush and making bonfires, golf, fixing things to include refinishing antiques, playing Santa Claus, watching westerns on TV, and making chocolate chip cookies, pizza and cinnamon rolls while wearing a white chef hat. Probably the most time-consuming hobby Jim had was taking care of his beloved Boxer dogs and making sure they had everything they needed with even one dog, Abby, being invited to the Westminster Dog Show in New York.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Charlotte and daughter Rachael Henry of Midland, Texas, daughter Jennie Teeter & son in law Andy of Skiatook, Oklahoma, four granddaughters, Rebecca Lyons and husband Zac, Gracie Teeter, Mattie Teeter and Sarah Henry. He is also survived by his loving brother, Dennis Pierson and wife Victoria and numerous nieces and nephews on both sides of the family. Jim never met a stranger and greeted everyone with a smile and warm hug making literally hundreds of friends in each chapter of his life.
The family would like to express their gratitude towards the extraordinary medical team at the Veterans Hospital in Big Spring, TX with a specific recognition of Dr. Trinidad M.D. and Nurse Crystal for their care of Jim and to the entire staff at the Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home along with Home Hospice of Big Spring. Each team member provided excellent care and loving compassion towards Jim. Charlotte and family would like to express their deep appreciation for the countless prayers, texts and phone calls from family, friends and the Stephen’s Sunday School department of First Baptist Church in Midland.
