James L. Banks, 78, of Big Spring, died on Sunday, May 15, 2005, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rick Cunningham, minister of 14th and Main Church of Christ and Bob Kiser of Abilene, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.He was born on February 1, 1927, in Loraine, Texas and married Doris Jean Harbison on July 23, 1948 in Big Spring, Texas.A lifelong resident of Big Spring, James graduated from Big Spring High School in 1944. He attended Howard College and had taught automotive classes at Big Spring High School and Howard College. He owned and operated Banks Automotive for 35 years, retiring in 2004. He loved antique cars and restoring them.James was a member of the 14th and Main Church of Christ. He had been a longtime member of the Sand Springs Church of Christ, serving as an Elder for 30 years. He was involved with the Prison Ministry for 10 years. He was also a member of the Big Spring Antique Car Club and the AACA. Mr. Banks served in the United States Army during World War II.Survivors include his wife, Doris Banks of Big Spring; three sons, Cary Banks and wife, Carol, of Lubbock, Russell Banks of Stanton and Jake Banks and wife, Ginger, of Midland; one daughter, Toya Dyess and husband, J. D. of Richmond; seven grandchildren, Jason Banks and wife, Crystal, Katherine Banks, Cody Banks, Megan Banks, Jared Banks, Victoria Banks and Rachel Dyess; one brother, William R. Banks, Jr. and wife, Doris, of Big Spring; two sisters, Ruth Holmes of Midland and Shirley Rogers and husband, J. T., of Corunna, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Russell and Effie Irvington Banks; and three brothers, Pete Banks, Jack Banks and Clyde Banks.
