James Jimmy? Conine, Jr. 74, of Midland, passed away on July 6, 2006 at his residence. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at 11:30 am at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel, 3800 N. Big Spring St. in Midland, with Dr. Tim Walker pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Jimmy was born April 18, 1932 in Luling, Texas to James and Glinyce Conine. He lived in Andrews and Denver City as a child before moving to Midland in the mid 40s. Jimmy attended Midland High School and graduated in 1949, and then attended Texas Tech University graduating in 1954 with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. He was in the United States Air Force stationed in San Antonio from 1954 to 1955. Jimmy liked to joke with his friends telling them that not one Korean entered the Alamo during his time of service there in San Antonio. After college, Jimmy returned to Midland and worked for Great Western Drilling. He started his own business (PERCO) in 1963, and also built and opened The Bar in 1979, and owned and operated it until 1989. At one time, Jimmy and his good friend Ronnie Hissom were participants in the Chaparral Racing Team. Jimmy was also an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved hunting in Balmorhea with his dogs Sable, Sister Bubba, and Bobo. He also loved fishing with many of his good friends. Jimmy enjoyed flying airplanes and was a great pilot. Jimmy was a kind and generous man who never hesitated to help someone in need, whether it be a friend, a family member or a stranger. He will be remembered for unique sense of humor by his many, many friends. He never met a stranger. He is survived by his wife Evelyn Conine, of Midland; three daughters, Stephanie Washburn and husband Joshua of Midland, Jennifer Kennedy of Austin, Deborah Clohessy and husband Doug of Midland; three granddaughters, Jordan and Jody Hester, of Boulder, Co. and Hannah Rose Washburn of Midland; one grandson and his best buddy?, Nathan James Washburn of Midland; step father, Glen Riley; and beloved dog and faithful companion Annie.He was preceded in death by his parents and the light of his life, daughter Nancy Hester of Boulder, Co.The family suggests memorials be made to American Heart Association, 3205 W. Cuthbert A-5, Midland, TX 79701 or to Home Hospice, 901 W. Missouri, Midland, TX 79701.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
