James David Farmer, 58, of Midland, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2016 in Dallas, TX. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 3:00PM at First United Methodist Church in Midland.David was born on June 23, 1957 to Donald and Carol Farmer in Angleton, TX. While growing up he attended several different schools across the country and ended up graduating where he was born in Angleton, TX. David attended Texas Lutheran with a football scholarship, where he was later inducted into the Hall of Fame, and finished his college career at UT Austin and graduated with a B.S. in Geology. He worked for various companies and in various locations including Alaska and Russia. He most recently worked for himself as an independent geologist at David Farmer exploration, LLC.Upon graduation and moving to Midland, he joined multiple geological societies where he could share his passion for geology. He served on several committees for both the West Texas Geological Society (WTGS) and the Permian Basin Section of the SEPM, where his organizational skills and passion for these organizations became apparent to everyone around him. He was elected Vice President, Secretary, and President of the WTGS. His exceptional leadership within the WTGS was recognized in 2011 when he received Honorary Life Membership, the highest honor the WTGS can bestow on one of its members. Locally, David was also a member of, and active in, the Midland chapter of the Society of Independent Professional Earth Scientists (SIPES), where he found another group of members who shared his passion for geology. He served SIPES as Secretary and Midland Chapter Chairman. His involvement in geological societies extended beyond the local level. He joined the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) in 1980. He was elected as a delegate to the AAPG House of Delegates. David served on numerous committees in his 17 years as a delegate.His hobbies include hunting, fishing, snow skiing, wood working, riding motorcycles, and sports, but must importantly spending time with his family. He was loving, caring, friendly, outgoing and outspoken, and was that someone you could always hold a conversation with. He was a fighter to the very end.He is survived by his wife, Sharon (Richey) Farmer; son Jace Farmer, daughter Jordan Farmer, and their family dog, Roxy. Other survivors include his mother, Carol Farmer; two brothers John and Larry Farmer and their families; his two aunts Betty Foley and Anna Mae Giese; and cousins.He is preceded in death by his father Donald Farmer; paternal grandparents J.D. and Louise Farmer, maternal grandparents Gus and Telzie Geise; cousin James Gregory Foley; along with several aunts and uncles.Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce Brady, Bart Firestone, Mike Party, Corey Richards, Sam Samford, Craig Smith, Mike Stewart, and Brian Watson.In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be donated to Habitat for Humanity and Midland Rape Crisis and Children's Advocacy Center.,
