James Elvis Barrington, Jr. passed from this earthly life Thursday, June 19, 2008. James was born on October 17, 1946 in Lubbock, TX. One of God's special children born with Downs Syndrome, he was a joy to his family. James was an affectionate and outgoing man that loved singing and never met a stranger.His parents, J. Elvis and Wilma Nell (Cathey) Barrington, preceded him in death.James is survived by sisters, Cathie Barrington of Grand Prairie, TX Deborah Stephens and husband, Audie of Midland, TX; brothers, Gary Barrington of Goodlettsville, TN, Troy Barrington and wife Martha of Lawn, TX; 12 nieces and nephews; aunt Ruby Mariner of Amarillo, TX, uncle Tillman Barrington and wife Belva of Belton, TX, uncle Wesley Cathey and wife Maye of Boerne, TX, aunt Susan Cathey of Abilene, TX and many loving cousins.James lived at the Denton State School for the past year and half. He was a long time resident of Midland and a faithful member of the Midland Primitive Baptist Church. He loved his Lord and often talked of going to heaven. Every summer, James looked forward to attending Harmony Plains Singing School where he enjoyed learning and singing hymns. He participated in many activities including Boy Scouts swimming and Special Olympics. James won many medals and completed in Bi-State in bowling.The family wishes to thank the employees and volunteers of Denton State School and Camarie House in Midland for the loving care of their brother.Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Monday, June 23, 2008 at the Midland Primitive Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Midland. The family will receive friends at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home, 3800 N Big Spring ST from 6:00 to 7:30 pm, Sunday, June 22, 2008.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to: Harmony Plains Singing School, 4304 45th ST, Lubbock, TX 79413-3312; Denton State School ?
