James D. Brimer, 74 of Midland passed away on September 22, 2021. Jim was born on July 29, 1947, to Eugene L. Brimer, DDS and Wilma Brimer in Inyokern, California. Jim grew up in Oklahoma City where he excelled in swimming and track and went to the state competition. After graduation, he attended OU and lettered as a freshman in swimming. With over 200 hours of college credit, he eventually graduated from UTPB. However, he was a lifelong, devoted fan of all things University of Oklahoma! He coached competitive swimming for 15 years, first for Kerr-McGee Swim Club in Oklahoma City, then in Corpus Christi, and finally with the Odessa Aquatic Club. In 1982, he embarked on his second career and joined New York Life Insurance Company. His wife, Beth, joined him in the insurance business early on and they built a great business together, Brimer Benefit Consultants, LLC.
Jim was an avid runner and tri athlete in his younger days. He loved camping, hiking, fishing, bow hunting, etc. He took his children on many camping trips all over the U.S. Jim was part of a group of mountain climbers, who successfully climbed Mt. Rainier twice and also Mt. Whitney, the highest mountain in the contiguous U.S. at 14,505 feet, in a winter climb. He was very proud of reaching the summit of Whitney with his two young daughters in the summertime on a trip to California. Jim was also known for his cooking skills and loved making pizzas in his custom made outdoor pizza oven.
Jim and Beth started playing golf over 30 years ago, first being members of Green Tree Country Club and then Midland County Club since 1995. Even though he had not played golf for many months, Jim loved all the friends he made and the tournaments he and Beth played in through the years. He especially loved all of the good times with his golf group, many of whom were also in Barry Beal’s bible study in which he participated weekly for many years.
Jim was fortunate to receive a kidney transplant in 2010. Jim and Beth started a Scholarship Fund for his donor, Rebecca Renee Sanchez.
