James Danford Averitt, 71, of Coahoma, died on Saturday, February 1, 2003, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, February 3, 2003, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rev. Tommy Franklin, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. He was born on October 31, 1931 in San Angelo, Texas. Mr. Averitt was a used car dealer in Howard County for 33 years and had been a draftsman for American Petrofina for 15 years. He was a Baptist. He served with the United States Army Corp of Engineers from 1950 to 1952 in the Korean conflict. Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Alma and Delbert Simpson of Odessa; his ex-wife and dear friend, Beverly Averitt of Big Spring; two step-daughters, Tracy Sousa of Orlando, Florida and Denise Creekmore of Big Spring; five grandchildren, Shane, Aaron, Devyn, Chelsea and David; two sisters-in-law, Billie Averitt of Lufkin and Jerline Averitt of Big Spring; one nephew and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Frances Averitt; two brothers, Bryan and Don Averitt; and one sister, Shirley Robinson.
