James Corbin Considine, affectionately known as “Corby,” was born on April 19, 1946, in Kansas City, Kansas, the second child of Ann Corbin Considine and James Leo Considine. On August 19th, 1967, he married the love of his life, Janet Lucille Wilkinson, with whom he shared a deep and enduring bond until his peaceful passing on January 26th, 2024.
Corby’s early years were marked by travels across various cities, accompanied by his siblings Lynn, Jan, Laird, and Charles. The family finally settled in Brenham, Texas, in 1958, where Corby attended middle school before pursuing his high school education at St. Stephens Episcopal School in Austin, TX, from 1960 to 1964.
A proud Blue Devil, Corby matriculated to Duke University in the fall of 1964. In 1965, amidst a summer break in Midland, he crossed paths with Janet, sparking a long-distance love story that flourished through daily letters until their joyous marriage in 1967. Corby graduated with a major in History, maintaining a full scholarship and working tirelessly. His commitment continued as he entered the University of Texas School of Law in Austin, TX, graduating in 1971.
Corby’s professional journey led him to El Paso Natural Gas and later to Midland, Texas, where he joined the law firm Cotton, Bledsoe, Tighe, and Dawson in 1974. Working as an Oil and Gas Attorney, Corby made lasting friendships and professional connections throughout his career until his retirement in 2017.
Beyond his professional life, Corby found joy in the arts. Inspired by his wife Janet, he became an active participant in the Midland Community Theatre, showcasing his creative and comedic talents in various productions from 1979 to 2010. Remarkably, he also embraced distance running, completing numerous marathons and achieving a personal best in 1979 of 3:01:32.
A man of deep faith, Corby’s connection to the Episcopal Church was central to his life. He lived out the principles instilled by his parents, Episcopal Priest James Leo Considine and Ann Corbin Considine, embodying kindness, humility, and love for all of God’s creations.
Corby was a remarkable soul, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. His generosity, consideration, and thoughtfulness made every encounter warm and memorable. His hugs, big and loving, provided comfort and solace to friends and family alike. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who felt his love from his wife Janet to his sons Kevin and Chris to his daughter in law Penny and to his greatest treasure his grandchildren Ian, Mary-Claire, Jack, Cort and Corbin. Though he may no longer be physically present, the love he shared remains an enduring reminder to love each other and be kind.
The family expresses special gratitude to Jennifer Todd, whose support in the last six months of Corby’s life went beyond measure. She became not just a helper but a walking buddy, organizer, chauffeur, and an angel sent by God. Her presence brought comfort and ease to Corby, Janet, and the entire family.
A memorial service will be held in Corby’s honor at 3:00 on February 10th at St. Nicholas Episcopal Church in Midland, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be sent to St. Nicholas Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
