James (Jim) Cooper Dewey passed away on May 25, 2025. He was born in Amarillo, Texas to Henry Cooper and Hazel Means Dewey in 1943.
He graduated from Milby High School in Houston, Texas in 1961 and joined the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged in October 1968 attaining the rank of E6. After serving his country , he worked in the insurance business for New York Life for 13 years. In 1981, he decided to make a career change and left to enter the oil and gas business. He was a landman for Dinero, Inc. for 44 years.
In 1989, he married Rita Turner. They were married for 35 wonderful years. They loved to travel and spent many vacations visiting islands in the Caribbean and the Destin area of Florida as well as at their vacation home in Ruidoso, NM.
Jim was pre-deceased by his father, Henry Cooper Dewey, his mother, Hazel Means Boyd and two great-grandchildren, Blake and Liam Frasier.
He is survived by wife, Rita Vaughn Dewey, his sister, Rhonda Stephens (Larry) of The Woodlands, a son, Russell Dewey and a daughter, Sherri Vines (Tracy); four grandchildren, Kallie (Landon) Graham, Cole (Riley) Frasier, Keaton (Ellen) Vines, Kadee Vines and 10 great-grandchildren.
A reception celebrating Jim’s life will be held at The Branch at NPW on Thursday, May 29, 2025 between 9:00am – 11:00am. Please wear colorful clothing and a smile on your face because Jim loved a good gathering. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Midland, or a charity of your choice.
