James C. Finley went to meet his heavenly father on August 22, 2009. He was born on Christmas Day 1930 in Meadow, TX to Robert G. and Willie Jewel, better known as Bob and Bill, Finley.James spent his early childhood years in Lubbock and attended school in Ropesville, TX. In 1946, his family moved to Floydada, TX. He graduated from Floydada High School in 1948. Following graduation, James enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Key West, FL aboard the USS Coolbaugh as an electrician. While home on leave for the Christmas holiday in 1951, James met his future wife, Joy Bunch. James and Joy were united in marriage on September 14, 1952.Following in his father's footsteps, James worked most of his life in the grocery business. His career began with Piggly Wiggly in Lubbock, TX and took his young family to Muleshoe, TX and Big Spring, TX. In 1959, James accepted a sales position with Frito Lay. This career move brought the Finleys to Midland, TX. In 1969, James once again found himself in the grocery business: first with Gibsons, then with Skaggs-Albertsons and ending with Albertsons where he retired in 1995. During his retirement, James earned his Texas Real Estate License and he worked for various Real Estate Agencies in Midland. James was ordained as a deacon at Northside Baptist Church in Midland, TX. He was a member of Crestview Baptist Church and the Midland Downtown Lions Club. He loved the Atlanta Braves, the Dallas Cowboys and the Lee Rebels.The family wants to extend a heartfelt thank you to Bill Jackson, the employees of Home Hospice of Midland, the employees of Home Hospice of Big Spring and the employees at the Texas State Veteran's Home in Big Spring.James is survived by his wife, Joy, of Midland; daughters and sons-in-law Kristi and Wendell Law, Suzanne and Dale Lay, and Melanie and Blain Huddleston all of Midland, TX; granddaughter, Erra Shay Bachman, of Midland; grandsons, James Law and his wife Michele of Austin, and Dustin Law and his fiancé, Hailey Yielding of Lubbock, TX; two bonus grandsons, Kyle Lay and his wife Ashley of Lewisville, TX and Kurtis Lay of Snyder, TX; one sister, Erma Dean Griffith of Lubbock, TX and one brother, Bobby Finley of Brownwood, TX. James was also blessed with numerous nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Donald J. Finley. The pallbearers will be James' sons-in-law and his grandchildren. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 26th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home located at 3800 N Big Spring St in Midland, TX. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 27th at 2:00 p.m. at Crestview Baptist Church located at 301 N. Loop 250 W., (next to Grande Communications Stadium) Midland, TX. Dr. Loren White will be officiating the service and Rev. Ty Morris will be assisting.
