On Friday, February 13, 2009, Jim went to be with his Lord, surrounded by his family and friends.He was born on December 24, 1933, in Cisco, Texas and was the son of Louise (Petty) and Herschel Bassett. He married Shirley Freeman on August 18, 1956.Jim is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Midland; one daughter, Sherri Bassett, and husband Rick Pearson, of Austin; and his sister, Barbara Callaway and husband Rodney, of Cross Plains.Memorial services will be held Monday, February 16, 2009 at 5:00 P.M. at Crestview Baptist Church with Rev. Ty Morris, officiating, and Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at 2:30 P.M. at Higginbotham Funeral Home in Cross Plains, with Rev. Bennie Hagan officiating.Jim graduated from Cisco High School and Cisco Junior College. His career was 25 years with Employers Insurance Company and later as a Real Estate Broker. He was a longstanding member of Crestview Baptist Church where he was faithful to the Lord.Memorials can be made to Myasthenia Gravis Foundation, Northwest Texas Chapter, PO Box 1148, Levelland, Texas 79336, or to Crestview Baptist Church Building Fund, 3300 Thomas, Midland, Texas 79703.Local arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory. Jim, was truely a good man who loved his Lord, his family and his friends. He was our friend for many, many years and will be missed by us. He could always make you feel good with his sense of humor and laughter. The special times with him and Shirley will always be special to us. What a special person was he. When Jimmy was a young teenager (the age of my older sister), he spent a lot of time at our house. My mother loved having the kids, and our house was always full of laughter and fun! Since I didn't have a brother, I thought all those cute boys were my brothers, and I have continued to love them all these years. Jimmy is the last one of the "regulars" who rode their motoscooters over--Bob White, Ralph Green, Duane Pelfrey, Robert Dale Whisenant. I pray that Shirley, Sheri, Barbara, Rodney, and other family members will find comfort in knowing that Jimmy was a fine Christian man and a good friend. Carlene Holder Spicer
