James A. Horton, 86, of Big Spring, died on Sunday, March 27, 2005, in a local hospital. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at Trinity Memorial Park Peace Chapel with Rev. Dennis Teeters, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM Monday at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel.Mr. Horton was born on April 11, 1918, in Big Spring and married Wanda Lou Pearce on May 11, 1940 in Big Spring.James worked for Union Pacific Railroad for thirty-six years. After retirement, James still remained active, he loved the outdoors, fishing at his lake house, and cooking. He enjoyed tinkering with things. His family was very important to him and he loved his kids and grandkids.He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a 32nd degree Mason for over fifty years, a member of the Staked Plains Lodge, and the Trainmans Association.Survivors include his wife, Wanda Horton of Big Spring; one son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Samantha Horton of Big Spring; two daughters, Nora Phillips of Big Spring, and JoAnn Armstrong of Austin; one brother, T. F. Horton of Big Spring; four grandchildren, Terri and Tony Flores of Big Spring, Kevin Armstrong of San Jose, California, Joanna and Scott Holle of Austin, and Timothy Horton of Big Spring; four great grandchildren, David and Kyle Flores, and Meaghan and Elise Holle.He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Heart Association, 3205 W. Cuthbert, Suite A-5, Midland, Texas or the First Baptist Church Organ Fund, 705 W.
