J. Weldon Bryant, 91, of Big Spring, died on Tuesday, August 30, 2005, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, September 2, 2005 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rev. Dennis Teeters, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.He was born on November 20, 1913, in Gorman, Texas and married J. Juanita Wilkerson on August 9, 1974 in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Mr. Bryant came to Big Spring in 1934 and had worked for the United States Postal Service for 42 years, retiring as assistant postmaster.He had been a member of First Baptist Church since 1934 and was a charter member of the American Business Club. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army Air Corps and served in Panama.Survivors include his wife, J. Juanita Bryant of Big Spring; two sons, Rick Shortes of San Antonio and David Shortes of Odessa; a sister-in-law, Edna Bryant of Amarillo; six grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, E. E. and Beulah Bryant; two brothers, A. T. Bryant and Orville Bryant and two sisters, Eltha Whisenhunt and Agnes Hasley.
