J. D. Thompson, 90, of Big Spring, Texas, died on Thursday, July 7, 2005, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 12, 2005 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel in Big Spring, with Dr. David Ring, pastor of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, July 11, 2005.J.D was born on September 6, 1914, in Ellis County, Texas and married Leona Owen on January 4, 1934 in Ft. Worth, Texas. She preceded him in death on September 18, 2001.Mr. Thompson moved to Big Spring in 1947 from Ft.Worth, to work as a bus driver for Continental Trailways Bus Lines's American Division. He worked for 45 years retiring in 1987 as the top seniority driver in the Division. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and had been a longtime member of Wesley Methodist Church and the Men's Sunday School Class.He was a member of Staked Plains Lodge # 598 A.F. & A.M. for over 50 years. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodges in Stanton and Coahoma. He was also a 50 year member of the Suez Shrine Temple of San Angelo. The Masonic Lodge was his passion along with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was proud of all his grandchildren's accomplishments. He was able to attend the Army/Navy football game this past year and enjoyed it because it involved a grandson. He also enjoyed Howard College sports.Survivors include: two daughters & sons-in-law, Lucy and Paschal Odom of Big Spring, Jane & Bob Glover of Abilene; a sister, Johnnie Riggs of Godley; grandson and wife, Jack & Laura Odom of Early; two granddaughters and their husbands, Jill & Mark Spannaus of Midland, Shannon & Morgan Cruthirds of Ft Worth: a grandson, Lt. Joel Glover of West Point, New York; and three great grandchildren, Lindsay and Carrie Spannaus of Midland and Jessica Odom of Early.He was also preceded in death by his parents, John Henry and Fannie Mae Thompson and three brothers, Floyd, Garland, and Charles Thompson.The family suggest memorials to: Scottish Rite Learning Center of West Texas, Inc., P.0.
