Iva Doris Hillger of Midland left this world to join her loving Savior, surrounded by her family, on January 21, 2008. Doris was preceded in death by Harvey, her husband of fifty years, three brothers, two sisters and one great-grandson.Doris was born November 25, 1920 to Isom and Kate Hare of Sulphur Springs, Texas. While working in the cotton fields of Garden City she met Harvey Lee Hillger. They were married on Valentines Day 1936. Harvey and Doris ranched and farmed in Garden City where Harvey was born. They moved to Courtney and continued farming and ranching. They moved to Midland in 1951. Doris was employed by Midland Hardware and Pittsburg Plate Glass for many years. She then managed and owned several Bed and Bath stores in the Midland Odessa area. While she dearly loved her stores, she had to close them when her health began to fail in 1987. Her hard work and dedication to family combined to give her a great purpose in life. She is remembered by many as a devout Christian whose faith and devotion to Christ helped carry her through her entire life, and lead many others to Christ as well. Doris' faith was manifest through her caring and helping ways to other people.Doris is survived by three loving daughters, Lois Jean Page of Midland, Barbara and her husband Ralph Meriwether of Alpine, and Jan and her husband Michael Stephans of Midland. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, and a wonderful caregiver, Susie Rodriquez of Midland.The family will receive friends at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services have been scheduled for Thursday, January 24, at 10:00 a.m. at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home, 3800 N.
