Isidro "Shorty" Melendez, Sr., 72, of Big Spring, died on Monday, March 2, 2009, in a Midland hospital. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, March 5, 2009 at the Mt. Olive Memorial Park with Deacon Johnny Arguello, officiating. He was born on April 4, 1936, in Rio Verde, Mexico and married Anita Beseril in 1960 in Big Spring.Shorty came to Big Spring in 1951. He worked at the Coop Gin for many years and had also farmed and raised cattle. He was a Catholic.Survivors include his wife, Anita Melendez of Big Spring; two daughters, Irma Cervantes of Big Spring and Petra Melendez of Austin; one son, Isidro Melendez, Jr. of Big Spring; six grandchildren; four brothers, Fernando Melendez, Otilio Melendez, Sirilo Melendez and, Bonifacio Melendez; and three sisters, Antonia Rodriquez, Socorro Garcia and Atanacia Flores. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Graciela Melendez on February 24, 1998 and his parents. Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
