Irwin L. Ward went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 3, 2008. His wife, Jackie, and best friend, Dale Walker, were at his side. He had been in Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home for several years. Graveside funeral services will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Midland, at his son Ronnie's grave, at 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 10, 2008 with Chaplain Walter McCall with Compass Hospice, officiating.He was born on February 17, 1928, in Sidney, Texas and married Jackie Grace in July 1983 in Midland, Texas.He had lived in Ballinger for 15 years, before moving to Stanton in 2004. Irwin worked as an electrician for Northern Natural Gas, retiring in 1975. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stanton and had served as a deacon. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Jackie Ward of Big Spring; one son, Gregg Ward of Weatherford; one daughter, Linda Pruitt and husband, Donnie of Midland; one step son, Brad Johnson and wife, Debbie of Stanton; one step daughter, Jade Cook and husband, Omer of Garden City; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Ronnie Ward. The family suggests memorials be made to Compass Hospice, 1003 East FM 700, Big Spring, Texas 79720.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring. what an honor it was to be a special friend to Irwin. He was like my adopted father. We adopted each other you could say, back in the late 80's when we became so close when we were neighbors. We've remained very close. Irwin has suffered many years with his health and I know he is now in a much better place where he has no physical or mental limitations. I cherish the times with Irwin, and someday we will see each other again. Im sure in heaven he's "just a piddlin". I love you. Dale
