Irene C. Ornelas, 61 of Midland, passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2022. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel.

Irene was born on September 6, 1960 in Midland, Texas to Josefina and Ricardo Covarrubias. Irene married her husband, Steve Ornelas on July 10^th 1993. They have three beautiful daughters and four grandchildren. Irene was full of life and always had a smile on her face. Her bright personality and laugh lit up every room. Irene was so loving and will be remembered by her giving heart. She was a natural caregiver and touched so many lives. She cared for many children over 10 years, loving and caring for each as her own. She loved to bake, make crafts and spend time with her family.

Irene is survived by her husband Steve E Ornelas of 27 years, daughter Jessica Covarrubias Barela and grandbabies Mykah and Josiah Rios, daughter Stephanie Ramos and husband Irvin Ramos and soon to be grandbaby, daughter Aaliyah Almuina and husband Brandon Almuina and grandbaby Lane Almuina.

Irene is preceded in death by her father Ricardo Covarrubias, brother Desidero Covarrubias and brother Jose Fred Covarrubias.

The family would like to express their gratitude towards the nurses who cared for their beloved mother and all the family and friends who have provided meals or contributed any monetary donations.

My most recent memory she came in Best Buy I purchased her new kitchen she turned around and smiled so big at me she was proud to be getting a new remodeled kitchen and her Sweet husband telling her get what ever you want honey he loved to make her happy I am so happy to have know you my friend and May God give your family the strength to over come and know that they a beautiful guardian Angel watching over them!!! Irene could light up a room when she'd walk in with her beautiful smile. We always had good laughs and I loved the meals that she would fix and bring to work. I have missed my friend that I enjoyed working with so much.

She brought so much joy to our department at Concho and even when she transferred to production, I still was able to keep in touch with her and visit on occasion. She touched the lives of many. Will be dearly missed.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, an angel came to us by the way of Irene Ornelas. Irene cared and spoiled my daughter, Hannah, as she was her own grandbaby. Every day I would pick up Hannah from Irene’s after a long day at work to find a smiling happy baby with a big bow in her hair and smelling like baby lotion. Irene gave so much of her time and love to my daughter and to our entire family. When Hannah’s real grandmother was battling leukemia, Irene and Steve would visit her often to comfort her. Words cannot express our gratitude towards Irene, and we’re devastated to hear of her passing. Irene, you meant the world to us! I am certain you and Staci are having a big cup of coffee right now just chatting it up. Love you! Lyle, Helga & Hannah

I was shocked to hear about this beautiful lady. I didn’t know her well but I know her sister Irma. So young to leave this earth. My condolences to the family.

When Irene was younger, her family and ours played volleyball at Travis elementary school, we had lots of great times. She was a life long friend to our family and will be deeply missed. She had a smile and laughter that would light up the room. Our deepest condolences to the family, keeping you all in our prayers.
