Hugh Russell, 75, of Midland, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, November 26, 2012, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel, with Pastor Dean Cook officiating. He was born on May 18, 1937 in Ozona, Texas to George and Margaret Russell. He was a loved husband who loved his wife, family, and animals. He enjoyed shooting guns, his exotic animals and most of all his family and friends. Hugh accepted the Lord Jesus Christ and loved working for him. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Russell of Midland Texas; son Michael Lane Russell and Dotty of Graham, Texas; daughter, Larra Atwater and Jerry of Limon, Colorado; son, Mitch Russell and Diana of Midland, Texas; son, Steve Groeschel and Jo of Midland, Texas; four granddaughters, Lacee Muller and Nate, Shania Atwater, Jerra Atwater, and Hunter Russell; four grandsons, Wesley Russell, Dylan Poole, Matthew Groeschel, and Austin Groeschel; niece Cherice Jones and Rick and nephew, Bill Coates and Janine. I just came back to town and heard about Hugh passing. I am so sorry I missed the funeral, Bonnie. Hugh was one of my great Mobil buddies and we shared many stories about our families - you, his boys and his cats. He also taught me about the automation systems we had in several fields. He was always so kind to think about me and drop an email or phone call: This is Hugh. Just checkin' on ya. And he continually encouraged me to get my concealed license.... I will miss him here but look forward to sharing more stories.

Though I only knew Hugh for little over a year it seemed much longer than that. Hugh was one of those kindred souls that I could relate to in life on many things, he always had a good story to tell and I looked forward to the times we had talking about life and visiting over a cup of Joe and a Fat Pill (Donut). I will always remember our short but forever lasting friendship. My heart goes out to his family in this time of grief. But know this, Heaven just got a little more exciting! A friend once told me that when a mighty oak tree is uprooted, it leave one hell of a hole. I have know Hugh and his family for 11 years. He will be missed we shot a lot of skeet and shot the bull a good deal. I worked for Hugh when he was with Mobil Oil and he was undoubtedly the best supervisor and friend that I ever had. I also am on the shotgun board of directors and he will be sorely missed. I will try to make it to the funeral but the flu is kicking my butt.Gary Long

Daddy Hugh my daughter Andi and I will miss you so very much. You and Bonnie have always treated me as if I were one of your kids and always appreciated that. I'm sorry I didn't call like I should have or come visit like I should have but you were always in my heart and often on my mind. I'll see you when I reach the other side and we'll have a real good time. God bless your soul.
