Horace Cook went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by his family and friends, just seven days short of his 91st birthday. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2005 at 10:00 AM at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel, with Rev. Don Snipes, pastor of Baptist Temple Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 6, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the funeral home. He was born on April 7, 1914 near Clear Lake, Texas and married Irene Gibson on January 9, 1939, in Big Spring, Texas.Horace lived a full life building the trails of the Grand Canyon with the CC Camps in his teens, and learned welding building Liberty ships in Houston during World War II and worked as a welder for Pioneer Natural Gas for twenty-seven years. He was a member of Baptist Temple Church. Horace moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1996 to live with his daughter and family. Survivors include two sons, Donald Cook of Houston and Jerry Cook of Lucas; one daughter, Linda Harbin of Tucson, Arizona; eight grandchildren, Darel Cook, Dawn Cook, Angie Rexford, Christi Mayberry, Jason Viel, Michael Harbin, Matthew Harbin and Kaelyn Harbin; nine great grandchildren, McKenna, Savanna, Harrison, Parker, Jackson, Hayden, Mason, Justin, and Alex; and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Venia Cook; three brothers, Ed, Charlie, and Mac; two sisters, Ruth and Lola; and his wife of 52 years, Irene.
