Horace P. Yanez, 85, of Big Spring, died Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at his residence. Vigil services will be 7:00 PM Thursday, January 29, 2015 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, January 30, 2015 at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. Interment will follow at Mt Olive Memorial Park.He was born June 12, 1929 in Big Spring, Texas and married Pilar Porras April 26, 1952 in Big Spring, Texas.Horace was a lifetime resident of Big Spring and played baseball for the Big Spring Tiger's from 1946 to 1948. He served in the United States Army and had worked at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, retiring as supervisor of building management after 27 years of service. One of his greatest desires was for his family to get their education and to provide for them. He enjoyed cooking and baking for his family.Horace was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish and was ordained as a deacon in January 1979. He served at St. Thomas Catholic Church and continued serving until his death. He was a member and director of the Cursillista movement.Survivors include his wife, Pilar Yanez; two sons, Juan \Johnny\ Yanez and Ricky Yanez and wife, Alma; three daughters, Gloria Blackburn, Velma Flores and husband, Luis, Jr. and Maria Salazar and husband, Jesse all of Big Spring; two sisters, Rachel Granato of Kingsville and Aurora Gallardo of Abilene; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, Ynez and Dolores Yanez; a daughter, Irma Rios and husband, Faustino; a son-in-law, Everette Blackburn; two sisters, Rebecca Rodriguez and Lumina Guzman; and three brothers., Ynez Yanez, Jr., Clarence Yanez, Sr. and Prospero Yanez.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
