Homer Allen Nance, 87, of Midland died on Monday, December 10. 2007 after a lengthy illness at a local care facility. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. David Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 12, 2007 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. He was born June 16, 1920 in Midland to James Anderson Nance and Florence Ella Tidwell both of whom preceded him in death as well as three brothers and four sisters.In 1921, his family moved to Clyde, TX where he farmed and graduated from Eula High in 1938. In 1940 he returned to Midland where, in 1942, he met his future bride, Dorothy M. Caswell, at a Sunday School social at the First Baptist Church in Midland. They were married in 1943.In 1942, Homer enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp and was stationed in Midland as an aircraft mechanic and was Honorably discharged in 1946. He worked at White's Auto Store in Midland for 17 years; then later for Sears where he was employed for 23 years before retiring in 1985. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Midland since 1941 and served as a greeter for 35 of those years. He will be remembered as a Christian man who loved and respected everyone he came into contact with. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling in the motor home he and his wife Dorothy shared for many years. Their favorite place was in Southfork, Colorado where they would spend the month of July enjoying the beautiful scenery and cool climate. Our many friends, church members and the staff of Hospice of Midland and Trinity Haven Healthcare helped him and our family endure this difficult time of illness. The family wishes to thank each and every person for their love, compassion and care. Homer is survived by his loving wife Dorothy of 64 years, his daughter Peggy Nance Hall and husband Donnie and grandchildren, Bryan and Sarah Hall of Houston and his son James Paul Nance of Midland along with three nieces.
