Hershel Benton, 88, of Midland, passed away Monday, November 30, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Thursday, December 3, 2009 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel in Midland with John Snider, officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven North in Midland.Hershel was born September 26, 1921 in Weatherford to Clara Bell and John Benton. He married Corene Green on June 1, 1940 in Brownfield. They were married for 68 years.He grew up in Lamesa and attended schools in Klondike. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He had B&W Welding and B&W Building in Midland for many years. After retiring from the construction business, Hershel did contract work for the postal service by running mail routes. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.Survivors include wife Corene of Midland; son Ted Benton and his wife Jane of Midland; son Randal Benton and his wife Diane of Midland; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Mark Benton, son Wesley Benton and daughter Irma Williams.
