Helen E. Ruff Bates, 77, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away on September 16, 2014 in Midland. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 from 6:00-8:00PM at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 2:00PM at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel in Midland. Helen was born on January 26, 1937 in Jonesboro, Louisiana to George and Myrtle Ruff. She married Timothy Bates on February 17, 1962 in Juarez, Mexico. Helen was strong willed but very pleasant to be around. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, camping, outdoors, and being with her family. One of Helen’s greatest accomplishments besides raising four daughters was getting her GED at the age of 62. Helen is survived by her husband of 52 years, Timothy Bates of Midland; four daughters, Sheryl Cowger of Midland; Vicki and husband, Terry Cargile of Midland; Pattie and Terry Knighton of Midland; and Shanna Bates of Midland; grandchildren, Travis Cargile, Eric Knighton, Rebecca Knighton, Shannon Bates and Ben Bates; great grandchildren, Ayden Bates, Alex Bates and Kirra Bates. The family suggests memorials be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4400 N. Big Spring Ste 32, Midland, TX, 79705.,
