Helen Abernathy, 87, of Midland, passed away Friday, January 11, 2013 at home. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Sunday, January 13, 2013 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, January 14, 2013 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel in Midland with Rev. Bob Porterfield, officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park Helen was born March 16, 1925 in Anson, TX to Irene (Chambless) and John Payne. She married Floyd B. Abernathy on January 24, 1947 in Eastland, TX.Helen was a homemaker, who loved crafts and sewing. She enjoyed playing Skip Bo with longtime friends and family.Survivors include husband of 66 years, Floyd Abernathy of Midland; son, Mike Abernathy and wife Carol of Sweetwater; son, Mark Abernathy of Midland; grandchildren, Dawn Abernathy of San Jose, CA, Megan Abernathy of Quitman, TX, and Justin Abernathy of Midland; great grandchildren, Raegan Costello, Kennedy Costello, both of San Jose, CA, and Lawson Ollive of Quitman, TX; and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Frances Payne, and brothers, Tommy Payne, Jimmie Payne, and John Payne. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimers Association, 4400 N Big Spring ST, STE 32, Midland, TX 79705.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
