Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, October 14, 2002, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rev. Dennis Teeters, pastor of First Baptist Church of Big Spring, officiating. Graveside funeral services will be 4:00 PM Monday at the City of Lubbock Cemetery. Hazel was born on July 14, 1908 in Wellington, Texas. She was married to Earl Worthan on January 14, 1927 in Merkle, Texas. He has been patiently waiting for her at the gates of Heaven since September 13, 1976. Others waiting to greet her are their son Weldon, twin granddaughters Katy and Kathy Worthan, grandson Kenny Hill, her brother Roy Buchanan and her sisters, Midge Parsley, Leona MacWilliams and Rita Buchanan. Hazel was a beloved homemaker and devoted her life to being an active mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She and Earl had farmed in the Abernathy and New Deal area for many years and moved to Big Spring in 1974. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Big Spring and the Bykota Sunday School class. She had also been a member of the Abernathy Order of the Eastern Star for many years, holding numerous offices during her membership. She leads the way to Heaven for her children Earlene and Kenneth Boothe, Dale and Elizabeth Worthan all of Big Spring, Iva and Lea Roy Hill, Ancil and Ann Worthan all of Abilene. She also will be waiting for her grandchildren, Danny and Karen Hill, Randy and Boneva Hill, Tim and Pearl Hill, Terry and Ned Bunting, Larry and Cindy Worthan, Stacey and Lisa Worthan, Sonya Metcalf, Tammy and Jack Lockhart, Rory and Cindy Worthan, Isaac Garcia, Veronda and Mark Vassar, Kerry and Jeff Carnell, Diane and Dwain Fox, Della Rene and Randy Maxwell, Willie Worthan, Debra Worthan, Michael Worthan and Yvonne Worthan; brother Wayne Buchanan; sister-in-law Helen Worthan; daughter-in-law, Gayle Worthan; along with 42 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Larry Worthan, Stacy Worthan, Danny Hill, Randy Hill, Timmy Hill, Rory Worthan and Ryan Vassar. The family suggests memorials to: First Baptist Church, Bykota Sunday School Class, 705 W. FM 700, Big Spring, Texas 79720.
