It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Hazel Janetta Harper, a beloved educator, devoted family member, and cherished friend, who departed this life on January 5, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on March 22, 1947, in Biloxi, Mississippi, Hazel was the daughter of Olen and Erma Grady.
Hazel graduated from Friendship High School and further pursued her passion for education, earning a bachelor’s degree from McMurry University in Abilene, Texas in 1972. For many years, Hazel dedicated her life to the field of education, profoundly impacting the lives of countless students.
A lover of games in all forms, Hazel found joy in playing board games. She was also an avid fan of bowling and enjoyed her time playing the slots. A passionate reader, Hazel valued story and knowledge, which she eagerly shared with those around her. Above all, she held her family dear to her heart, nurturing her loved ones with unwavering devotion.
Hazel is survived by her beloved husband, Augustus Harper, Jr.; her son, Trey Harper; and her cherished grandson, Bryson Harper. She is preceded in death by her parents, Olen and Erma Grady, as well as her brothers, Larry and Van Grady.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Midland Food Bank in her honor.
