Harvey Fischer passed away August 17, 2007 surrounded by his beloved family.He was born July 29, 1930, son of Bertha and Eric Fischer in Bastrop County, Texas. He was raised along with his two sisters and five brothers on a farm in Taylor, Texas, of which he had many fond memories. Harvey proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1948 to 1952. In 1953, he married Nellie Jo Iron Wing of Rapid City, South Dakota in Austin, Texas. He continued his education at the University of Texas in Austin, where he graduated in 1959, with a B.S. in Geology. During his years with GSI, he and his family moved throughout the United States, until settling in Midland in 1964. After retiring from Union of Texas, he earned his real estate license and worked for Dene Kelly Realtors.Harvey was a quiet, gentle man who enjoyed a beautiful day and good bicycle ride. He was often seen riding his bicycle near Wadley and Midkiff. He was an avid collector and recycler. Harvey had a keen sense of humor and most often had a twinkle in his eyes. He was a loving husband and father and will be greatly missed.He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Curtis. He is survived by his wife, Nellie Jo; three children, Linda Fischer-Luna and husband, Rafael of Austin, Texas, David Fischer and Patrick Fischer, both of Las Vegas, Nevada; brothers, Elton Fischer and wife, Lorraine and family of Temple, Texas, Willard Fischer and wife, Linda and family of Spring, Texas, Leroy Fischer and family of Denver, Colorado, Myron Fischer and wife, Kathryn and family of Austin, Texas; sisters, Allene Dixon and husband, James and family of Gatesville, Texas and Norm Fischer of Austin, Texas.The family wishes to thank the townspeople of Midland for their kindness and warmth shown to Harvey over the years. The family also wishes to thank everyone at Hospice of Midland and especially, nurse Richard Beebe, for their compassionate care and service.A memorial service is to be held at a later date in Austin, Texas.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
