Harrison Bickley was born October 7, 1914 in Merkel, Texas to Clifton and Fannie Bickley. The family moved to West Texas, where he was active in track and basketball at Courtney High School, graduating in 1934. He married Ona Nichols on Decemer 31, 1938 in the First Methodist Church in Stanton.He worked for Superior Oil Company for over 25 years, retiring in 1976. He spent many happy years raising gardens and fruit trees on his five acre patch in Greenwood. He taught his four grandchildren to drive, going around and around those five acres. More importantly, he taught us how to live Christ-centered lives by his example.He was a charter member of Asbury and Greenwood United Methodist Churches, serving on many committees. He was a member of First United Medthodist Church of Stanton for the past five years.Those who know him were blessed by his kind and gentle spirit. Praise The Lord for this precious gentleman!He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, A. J. Bickley; and a sister, Allene Blocker.He is survived by his devoted wife, Ona, of Stanton; two daughters and one son-in-law, Shirley Stone and Marilyn and Bud Glaspie all of Stanton; four grandchildren and their spouses, Kevin and Darci Glaspie and Kelli and Brad Holland all of Stanton; Stacy and Fred Vanderwerf of L'Viv, Ukraine and Marci and Chris Walker of Midland; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Jimmy Bickley and wife, Emma Lee of Robert Lee; three sisters, Glen Powell of Bastrop, Louise Graves of McMinnville, Oregon and Lavada Barnhill of Stanton; two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Oran and Juanita Nichols of Midland and Bill Clements of Irving; and numerous nieces and nephews.The family would like to thank the Robinson's and staff at Country Meadows and Home Hospice for the kind and compassionate care during "Harv's" last years.Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 1193, Stanton, Texas 79782, Home Hospice, 901 W. Missouri Ave., Midland, Texas 79701 or to a favorite charity.The celebration of this precious life will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, October 23, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church in Stanton with Rev. Daniel Armstrong, pastor, officiating.
