Harrald Wade Shanks, 89, of Big Spring, passed away Friday, March 18, 2022. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, Monday, March 21, 2022, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2:00pm Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
Pallbearers for the service will be grandsons JP Shanks, Jimmy Shanks Jr., Timothy Shanks, Dusty Shanks, Lance Murphy, Daniel Clark, and Clark Fields. Honorary Pallbearers will be Miles Field, Ian Paredez Murphy, Mason Clark, Nolen Murphy, and Kenton Murphy.
Wade was born January 21, 1933 in Comanche, Texas to Clara Hightower Shanks and Grover Shanks. He had been a resident of Big Spring since 1940. He married Dorothy Edna Christian October 25, 1952 in Big Spring. He was a member of 1st Baptist Church. Wade had coffee time with his friends at McDonald’s until COVID and then settled for going to Shirley’s everyday like clockwork. Wade worked at 7Up Bottling Company for seventeen and a half years until it was sold. After that, he was a self-employed painter for over 35 years until he retired. He enjoyed gardening and deer hunting. His grandbabies would light up his life.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; three sons: Donnie Shanks and wife Sharon, Larry Shanks and wife Sheila and Jimmy Shanks, Sr. and wife Sandy and one daughter: Shirley Murphy and husband Kevin; five grandsons: JP Wade Shanks and wife Angela, Jimmy Shanks, Jr., Timothy Shanks and wife Cecilia, Dusty Shanks, Lance Murphy and wife Amber; three granddaughters: Dr. Melissa Fields and husband Clark, LaTisha Shanks, Mandy Clark and husband Daniel; ten great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and one brother Charlie Shanks.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and three sisters and an infant grandson Michael Don Shanks.
