Harold "Jack" Slusher, 85, of Midland, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2009. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00, Friday, November 13, 2009 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, November 14, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Midland with Rev. David Johnson, officiating. Graveside services will be at 10:00 am, Monday, November 16, 2009 at Evergreen Cemetery in Paris, Texas.Jack was born July 17, 1924 in Jennings, Texas to Esther and Harold Slusher. He married Leonora Gladden on December 27, 1942 in Paris, Texas. They were married for 66 years.Jack graduated from high school and attended Paris Junior College for 2 years. He served in the United States Army. He and his family moved to Midland in 1954 from Paris.Jack's favorite things to do were being with Leonora, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His other favorites included: West Texas, Texas and the United States of America, old westerns with John Wayne and Clint Eastwood, "Lonesome Dove", entertainers-George Jones and George Strait, playing golf with his son and daughter, bar-b-q, a perfect yard, pump jacks, derricks and work over rigs, and The Rocker B Ranch.Jack's hobbies included horses, especially roping and cutting. Even when he could no longer participate, he would go to the events and remark about the talent of the horses and the riders. He was a horse trainer. He also enjoyed golf as a hobby. The fellowship that came with it enabled him to meet new friends, that otherwise he wouldn't have known. He played golf in the PGA Colonial Golf Pro-Am.He was a member of the Fisherman class of First Baptist Church, Professional Rodeo Association, VAN Serving the Visually Impaired and Masonic Lodge. He was president of the Big Lake Country Club Golf Association.Survivors include his wife Leonora of Midland; daughter Peggy Cook of Midland; daughter Deborah Brookins of Midland; son Dana Jack Slusher of Midland. He was preceded in death by sister Joyce Gist of Andrews and his parents Mr. and Mrs. Harold Slusher of Andrews.
