Harley Fred Bynum, age 72, passed from this life on April 18, 2018, after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 20, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Kelview Heights Baptist Church in Midland with Pastor Jerry Berry officiating. A graveside service will be in Snyder, TX, at the Snyder Cemetery later that day at 3:00 p.m. Harley was born on January 16, 1946, in Gorman, TX, to Glendon and Goldie Bynum. He was a longtime resident of Snyder, TX. He graduated from Snyder High School in 1964 where he excelled in track and baseball. He attended Howard Junior College in Big Spring for two years on a track scholarship, going to Nationals both years. After the national meet, he received a full track scholarship to the University of Alabama. Later he was inducted into the Alabama \A\ Club in recognition of outstanding achievements in athletics. In 1980 he began to umpire baseball games, first at the Little League and Teenage League, then at the high school level, and eventually became an umpire for the Southwest Conference. He worked under the conference until he retired in 1997. In October of 2017 he was inducted into the Snyder High School Hall of Honor for all of his athletic achievements. Harley married Judy Beckham in Snyder, TX, on August 9, 1969. He worked for Texaco at the time, and the couple moved to Lovington, NM. After a short while, Harley was transferred to Andrews, TX, where their two children were born. In 1974 Harley took a chemical sales job with Cardinal and moved his young family back to Snyder. In 1979 he left Cardinal and opened up Harley Bynum Photography with his wife. He served the city of Snyder and the surrounding area as a photographer for over 20 years. In 2001, he and Judy moved their business to Midland where he remained until his death. Perhaps his biggest accomplishment in life can be summed up in his acceptance speech for his Snyder High School Hall of Honor Award. Upon thanking the committee, he closed by saying, “I’m very proud I’ve been married to Judy Bynum for 48 years, and we declare in our hearts that we love and believe that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. I thank you and God bless you”. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife Judy Bynum of Midland, one daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Alan Martinez of Midland, a son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Julie Bynum of Snyder, and 4 grandchildren, Vance and Kailey Martinez of Midland and Devin and Kendra Bynum of Snyder. Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. Online condolences may be made at www.npwelch.com. ,
