H. P. Gent, 83, of Big Spring, died on Monday, May 4, 2009, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rev. Doug Shelley, pastor of Eastside Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. He was born on November 21, 1925, in Vernon, Texas and married Vera Briscoe on September 14, 1964 in Big Spring, Texas. She preceded him in death on January 17, 1990. H.P. came to Big Spring in 1928 with his family. He had worked for Union Pacific for 41 years as a conductor/brakeman. He enjoyed golfing and was a Baptist. He was a member of the VFW and served his country in the United States Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Pat and Donna Gent of Corsicana; three granddaughters, Sherri Kelly of Big Spring, Sarah Gent and Sadie Gent both of Corsicana; 2 great grandchildren; one brother, Bill Gent of Big Spring and one sister, Margie Coleman of Lindale. He was also preceded in death by one brother and five sisters. The family suggests memorials be made to Crossroads Hospice, P.O. Box 587 Big Spring, Texas 79721.
