H. L. Shipp, 95, of Stanton, died on Saturday, December 12, 2009, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, December 18, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church of Stanton with Rev. Daniel Armstrong, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Lamesa, officiating with Dr. Delton Chesser assisting. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Stanton. He was born on September 18, 1914, in Bullard, Texas and married Elnora Conner on November 29, 1937. She preceded him in death on September 9, 1948. H.L. served in the Civil Conservation Camp in El Paso in 1933 and then in Lamesa from 1935 to 1936. He worked as an auto mechanic all of his life working for Blocker Chevrolet, Eiland Ford, Carl Clardy, Rhodes Motor, retiring from Blocker Oil Company in 1989. He was an avid hunter and had a lifelong love of music playing the fiddle. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Stanton a member of the Masonic Lodge for 65 years, and served with the Stanton Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Bobby Noel and Linda Shipp of Dumas; one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Conrad McKaskle of Stanton; 6 grandchildren, Kasey Shipp of Houston, Kristi Gonzales of Dumas, Mary Caddell of Carrizo Springs, Anna McCabe of Trophy Club, Shawn Cook of Andrews, Sandy Zugg of Arlington; 10 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; 4 nephews, Billy Shipp of Brownfiield, Dennis Shipp and Tracy Shipp both of Midland, and Gary Shipp of Lubbock. He was also preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. The family suggests memorials be made to a favorite charity. Arrangements under the direction of Gilbreath Funeral Home of Stanton.
