Gwen Fryar, 96, of Big Spring, Texas, died January 20, 2021, in Big Spring. Due to COVID, private family graveside services will be at Trinity Park. Public viewing will be Sunday, January 24^th, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.

Gwen was born December 15, 1924, in Coahoma, Texas and married Harvey (Pig) W. Fryar on August 22, 1941 in Cleburne, Texas. She was a homemaker at their farm in Howard County. Gwen enjoyed cooking, gardening, oil painting, sewing, playing games, collecting and searching for arrowheads. She loved family gatherings and socializing with friends. She and Pig enjoyed visiting all 50 states and several countries. After he passed, she continued her love for traveling, going all over the world.

Survivors include a son, Larry Fryar; a daughter, Shana (Gary) Porter; three grandchildren, Todd (Vinda) Anderson, Kerry (Neanda) Fryar and Bart (Lindsay) Davis; a sister, Jeannie (Charles) Cunningham; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pig; her daughter-in-law, Sandie Fryar; a granddaughter, Leslie Martin; a brother, Cromwell Rhoton; and a nephew, Brent Rhoton.

The family suggests memorials to Alzheimer’s Association, Home Hospice or 14^th & Main Church of Christ.

The family wishes to give special thanks to her caregivers, Mary, Sandie, Judy, Delma and Margie and everyone at Parkplace Retirement Living.

My thoughts, love and prayers are with all of you. Gwen was a beautiful amazing lady. Always kind, giving and sweet to everyone. I feel blessed because I got to talk to her on her 96th birthday. She had her make up on, every hair in place, beautiful as always. May the good Lord give you extra strength and peace in the days ahead. You were blessed if you had Gwen as family or a friend.

I often think about the 2 weeks in December 1952 when my younger brother and I stayed with Uncle Pig, Aunt Gwen, Larry, and Shana while my mother was in Houston for her first open heart operation. Aunt Gwen came up with many things for us to do. I especially remember making popcorn strings with needle and thread to hang on the Christmas tree.

Aunt Gwen was a very special lady. My prayers are with your family.

Gwen was one of the sweetest most sincere people I have know. Only got to see her once a year or so but she knew everything about me , my family and kids. It was like we spoke weekly. Always had a smile She will be missed. Prayers to all the family

Gwen was such a nice lady. She always had a smile on her face and was very sweet and kind. I loved going over to her house because she always made the best sandwiches. She lived a beautiful long life. May she Rest In Peace.
