Guadalupe V. "Lupe" Urias, 80, of Big Spring, died on Friday, February 29, 2008, in a Midland hospital. A vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM, Monday, March 3, 2008, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at the St. Thomas Catholic Church with Father Bernard Gully, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.He was born on December 12, 1927, in San Jose, Texas to Higinio and Dolores Urias and married Maria J. Juarez on June 3, 1967 in Mexico.Raised in Ft. Stockton for many years, Lupe came to the Stanton and Big Spring area as a young man. He had worked for a number of years for Hughes Motor Company as a mechanic and then drove a bus for St. Mary's Episcopal School and Church. In 1991, he opened El Nopal Cafe and owned and operated it until his death. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and had served in the United States Army.Survivors include his wife, Maria Urias of Big Spring; four sons, Arthur Urias, Sr. and wife, Ruby of Dallas, Ricky Juarez, Sr. of Mexico, Edward Urias and wife, Lorena and Barnaby Urias all of Big Spring; one daughter, Martha Salazar and husband, Louis of Big Spring; one sister, Nena Jurado-Isaias of Stratford; three brothers, Joe Urias of Kansas City, Missouri, Higinio Urias, Sr. of Dumas and Calistro Urias of Slaton; a sister-in-law, Rosa Acosta of Stanton; eleven grandchildren, Denise Urias of Odessa, Arthur Urias, Jr. and Roger Urias both of Round Rock, Chance Urias, Ricky Juarez, Jr., Rene Juarez, Louis Salazar, Jr., Edward Urias, Jr., Marisa Salazar, Ethan Urias and Matthew Salazar all of Big Spring; one great grandchild, Anthony Urias of Odessa and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Natividad Urias; an infant sister, Juanita Urias and a nephew, Charles Urias.Pallbearers will be Arthur Urias, Jr., Roger Urias, Chance Urias, Ramon Urias, Lupe Urias, David Dominguez, Jr., Joe Acosta, Ricky Juarez, Jr., and Vicente Zavala.
