Gregory Scott Sturtz, 45, of Midland, Texas, passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2012 in a tragic car accident in Odessa, Texas. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 5, 2012 from 5:30-7:00PM at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, Iowa. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00AM Friday, July 6, 2012at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Prairie View Cemetery in Gilman, Iowa. Greg was born on January 18, 1967 to Vernon and Katherine Sturtz in Des Moines, Iowa. He attended the University of Iowa and graduated with his MBA. He then went on to get his Law degree at Drake University. After practicing law for a few years in Denver CO he started Sturtz Construction Business. In 20111 he moved to Midland, TX to be close to his mother, brother and family. He took a job in the oilfield with Fesco LTD where he had the privilege of working daily with his nephews Cole and Cade. His passion for hockey was evident through the countless hours he spent coaching youth teams and playing on intramural teams while in Denver. His more recent days off were spent with his nieces and nephews grilling outside, watching sports and spending time with his friends and family. Survivors include brother, Steve (Bridgett) Sturtz of San Angelo, Texas; special friend, Katrina Gustafson; niece, Caitlin Paige Sturtz; nephew, Cole (Ami) Doss, nephew, Cade (Lauren) Doss, nephew, Jordan Jost; niece, Saegan Jost; and nephew, Edwin Jost. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Katherine Sturtz. Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland and Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, Iowa.,
