Stuart “Grant” Schulz, 63, of Midland, Texas, beloved husband, father, son, son-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, and friend, passed away on September 27, 2024, in Midland, Texas, surrounded by his loving family. Outgoing and funny, Grant never met a stranger. He was an entertaining, considerate, loving person, and all who knew him will deeply miss his friendship and support. Services will be held on October 12, 2024, 11:00am, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel in Midland, Texas.
Grant was born on September 11, 1961, in Beaver, Oklahoma, to Bob and Mildred (Schram) Schulz. The fifth of five children, Grant spent his childhood moving between Oklahoma, Texas, and Louisiana as his father was transferred for his career. The frequent moves brought the family closer together because they always had each other, resulting in lifelong friendships among the siblings. Wherever they lived, the family enjoyed annual summer camping trips to Colorado, often with an aunt, uncle, and cousins who lived there, as well as cross-country trips to western Canada, southern California, and New York/Washington DC, camping in National Parks along their journeys.
Grant graduated from Memorial High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma (May, 1979), and received a Bachelor of Business degree from the University of Oklahoma (May, 1983) where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.
He then moved to Midland where he met the love of his life, Tamara Smith. They were married on December 1, 1990, and had their amazing daughter, Peyton Elizabeth, on November 3, 1994. Grant loved time spent with his wife and daughter, including Saturday mornings spent with Peyton going to garage sales, and he truly enjoyed the opportunity to befriend neighbors, co-workers, and clients. He lived and worked in Midland throughout his career, including in oil and gas and as a driver for UPS.
Grant loved family gatherings (especially at the holidays), playing games (cards and marbles), going on vacations, visiting with friends and neighbors, his pets (especially Doc), a bargain, garage sales, tinkering, skiing, golfing, fishing, and OU football. Boomer! Sooner!
Grant is survived by Tamara, his loving wife of 33 years; his daughter, Peyton (fiancé Peter); his father, Bob; his in-laws, Linda and Tommy Smith; siblings Mark Schulz, Karen Graham (John), Carmel Fisk (Dan), and brother-in-law John Lakich. He is also survived by his nephews and nieces, Dylan Smith, Todd Smith (Kelsey); Byron Cox (Janet), Melanie Gutierrez (Joe), Heather Ortega (Cosme); Matthew Lakich (Amy), Ryan Lakich; Nikki Baker (Michael), Austen Graham; Becca Hoffman (Alex), Maddie Monaghan (Steven), Emily Fisk; as well as by several beloved great-nieces and great-nephews.
Grant was preceded in death by his mother, Millie; sister, Linda Lakich; sister-in-law, Linda Schulz; and brother-in-law Doug Smith.
