Glenna Kay Carter, beloved Daughter and Sister, entered the Heavenly Realm to meet her Mother, Maurine Carter, and her Dad, Dee P. Carter, on October 26, 2017. “Kay-Kay” was born on September 9, 1947, to Dee P. and Maurine Carter in Big Spring, Texas. She was a “special” child to her parents and to her two older brothers, Dee K. Carter of Midland, and Larry Carter of Dallas. Kay was diagnosed as a person with Downs' Syndrome and simply spent her entire life bringing joy and pleasure to her family and all those who knew her. Another Brother, Robert Carter of Grove, Oklahoma, was her “little” brother and actually grew up with Kay, being there for her as she grew older.Kay was never able to attend public schools, but she was one of the first Downs' Syndrome people to be in special education in Monahans, Texas, where the family lived from 1953 until 1961. She was the apple of her Daddy's eye! He was very protective of her as she grew up and she was always aware that Daddy was there for her.Kay lived at home with her Mom and Dad for most of her life, but following the death of her Dad, her Mother began to realize that Kay needed a real life of her own. With the encouragement of Susan Carter, her Sister-in-Law, Kay was able to move into a group home in Midland, Texas with the Rockhouse Foundation. There, she was able to make many new friends (even a boy friend!) and she loved her home, her room and all of her new friends. She was a resident of Rockhouse until an accident in 2013, caused her to need special care. At that time, she moved to Manor Park, where she was again a “special” person! The staff at Manor Park took very special care of Kay until her death.Kay (her friends called her Kay-Kay), was preceded in death by her Grandparents, Charlie and Adelia Carter and George and Lilly Montgomery, and her Mom and Dad, Dee P. and Maurine Carter of Midland. She is survived by Dee K. Carter and Susan Carter of Midland, Larry Carter of Dallas, Robert and Judy Carter of Grove, Oklahoma, her Aunt Helen Snyder of Odessa, Cousins Vickie Taylor, Brett Carter, Serette Smith and Colin Carter. Her niece, Mandee Carter, of Midland was one of her very special care-takers. Erin Carter, her niece and housemate at the Rockhouse home, was more of a Sister to her than a niece. Her Sister-in-law, Susan Carter, served as Kay's Legal Guardian for the last 20 years of her life and was called “Beauty” by Kay! She is also survived by many other nieces, nephews and friends too numerable to count.A memorial service will be held at the Nalley-Pickle-Welch Funeral Home in Midland at 2:00 on Friday, November 3. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park where Kay will be laid to rest next to her parents. Pallbearers will be members of the family and honorary pallbearers will be friends from Rockhouse. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest that memorials be made to the Midland Special Olympics, Midland Hospice or the charity of your choice.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
