A couple days ago, Legacy.com reminded me of the anniversary of the death of "Doc." After all the years—she was a student at UT-Austin and I was an 8th grade drum student at Alamo Junior High School in Midland, where BD Verda Herrington used Doc to tutor her percussion students, I will remember Doc. She taught me to love drum rudiments, and to embrace the entirety of the percussion experience. I'm 74 now, but until dementia causes her memory to fade, I'll still remember Doc.
