Gladys Mitchell Dempsey, 86, of Midland, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2013. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel with Pastor Walter Thompson officiating. Gladys was born on April 7, 1927 in Independence, Kansas to Dow and Ivetta Mitchell. She was raised in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and was a graduate of the University of Arkansas. On June 3, 1948 she and William Curtis Dempsey Jr. were married in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She lived in San Angelo for twenty-two years, previously living in Mt. Pleasant and Marshall, TX where she taught at the Episcopal Day School. Her last two years were spent in Midland at Polo Park Retirement Village.She is survived by her husband, William Curtis Dempsey Jr. of Midland; two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Isacks of Baton Rouge, LA., and Barbara Cherry of Midland; two sons, William C. Dempsey IV of Sonora, and Kenneth Mitchell Dempsey of Denver; a brother, Dow Doyle Mitchell of Denver, CO.; nine grandchildren, William Curtis Dempsey V, Andrew Dempsey, James Russell Dempsey, Scott Isacks, Sarah Cherry, Katie Cherry, Hannah Dempsey, Harrison Dempsey, and Austin Dempsey; great grandchild AJ Isacks.She is preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Betty Mitchell.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory.
