Gertrude Flores Shoemaker passed away on Monday, September 18, 2023 in Midland, TX. A viewing will take place 8:00am-5:00pm, Friday, September 22, 2023 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory in Midland.
Trudy was born July 1, 1947 in Kenedy, Texas to Eliseo and Manuela Flores. Trudy married the love of her life, Roger Shoemaker. She was a lover of country and Spanish music. She was a doting mother of her own children including her nephews and nieces. She was eternally famous for remembering and calling everyone on their birthdays (if she had your number).
Trudy was always ready to go on any road trip to be counted present. She knew God and was very devoted to prayer. She never met a stranger. She was a storyteller and a listener. She was known for her tortillas and tamales, playing bingo and cheating on Uno with her grandkids. She had a special and graceful love for her Joselito Castillo and her “Lollipop” Javier Flores but there was no love like the love she shared with “her boy” Alex.
Trudy is survived by her children Joe Santiago of Midland, TX, Sandra and Andre Brewer of Midland, TX, April Leyva of Las Vegas, NV, Marko and Melinda Santiago of Kearnes, UT, Jason Santiago of Lubbock, TX: grandchildren Kristal Santiago, Antonio Santiago, Vanessa Santiago, Angelica Santiago, Katy Rodriquez, Isaiah and Gia Santiago, Ely and Lily Silva, Steven and Brianna Silva, Ingred Silva, Kristal and Simon Alvarez, Lizette Leyva and Norbeto Gonzalez, Miguel Leyva, Donovan and Alicia Santiago, Nikolas Santiago, Isabel Santiago; thirty great grandchildren; siblings Abelia Vasquez of Round Rock, TX, Erasmo Flores of Lubbock, TX, Aisor and Tonia Flores of Lubbock, TX, Elisa and Anastacio Castillo of West Valley City , UT; numerous nieces and nephews.
Trudy is preceded in death by her husband Roger Shoemaker; parents, Eliseo and Manuela Flores; siblings, Florinda and Alfredo Lopez, Joe Flores, Gomecindo and Venancia Flores, Alberto and Anita Flores, Pedro and Alicia Flores, Israel and Eufemia Flores, her beloved Blanca Flores and great grandbaby Alexius Santiago.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Midland Memorial Hospital’s fifth floor.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
