George T. “Pat” Murphy, 86, of Big Spring, died Saturday, February 24, 2018 in a Midland hospital. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday, February 26, 2018 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday at Trinity Baptist Church. Graveside services will be 11:30 AM Wednesday at Parkland Cemetery in Agra, Oklahoma under the direction of Palmer-Marlar Funeral Home in Cushing, Oklahoma.He was born April 16, 1931 in Avery, Oklahoma to Henry Murphy, Sr. and Ruth Cornue Murphy. He married Betty Wonderly February 16, 1956 in Stroud, Oklahoma.Pat graduated from Kendrick High School in Kendrick, Oklahoma in 1949. He joined the United States Army in October 1952, serving in Korea on the front line, and was released from the Army in August 1954. He received the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, the Combat Infantry Badge, a Purple Heart Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.After leaving the service, Pat worked for Kerr-McGee Oil Company in Cushing, Oklahoma and moved to Big Spring January 22, 1962 to work for Cosden Refinery, retiring December 31, 1993. Pat coached Little League baseball and YMCA basketball and was an avid golfer.He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Murphy of Big Spring; one brother, Henry Murphy, Jr. of Oilton, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jeffery Ralph Murphy; and a sister, Helen Murphy.The family suggests memorials to Trinity Baptist Church, Mission Fund, 1701 E.
