George M. Currie, 90, of San Angelo, formerly of Stanton, died on Sunday, December 4, 2005, in a San Angelo nursing home. Graveside funeral services with military honors will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at the Evergreen Cemetery in Stanton with, Rev. David Harp, pastor of First Baptist Church of Stanton officiating. He was born on January 15, 1915, in McCullough County, Texas and married Nita Tolliver on June 10, 1948 in Henderson, Kentucky. She preceded him in death in 1997. George served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He came to Stanton in 1964 and was owner of Currie's Cafe and Currie's Little Store until he retired in 1980 moving to San Angelo in 2002. He enjoyed fishing, and coin collecting, but most of all his family was an important part of his life. He was a Baptist and also a member of the VFW. Survivors include one son, William "Bill" Currie of San Angelo; two daughters, Donna Burns and Nancy Paul both of San Angelo; 6 grandchildren, Tony Jones, Jody Springer, Jack Lee Jones, Jr., Nita Dittmer, Jason Paul and Cindy Lindsey and 8 great grandchildren, Shayla Springer, Jazmin Springer, Quinton Jones, Taylor Jones, Daniel Dittmer, Corey Lindsey, Tyler Lindsey and Courtney Lindsey. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Cecil Brown and William Irvin Currie and two great-grandchildren, Eric Paul, and Danelle Burns.
