George Phillips, 84, of Stanton, died on Sunday, June 5, 2005, in a local hospital. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at the Evergreen Cemetery Chapel in Stanton with Rev. Bob Porterfield officiating. He was born on February 14, 1921, in Greenville, Texas and married Mildred Marie Steward on November 18, 1939 in Stanton, Texas. George came to Stanton from Lomax in 1953 and worked as a maintainer operator for Martin County Road and Bridge for over 20 years. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Phillips of Stanton; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Carl Phillips of Alabama, J.D. and Barbara Phillips of Stanton, and Charlie Phillips of Midland; 4 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Iris Phillips of Big Spring, and several nieces & nephews.
