The Good Lord called George F. Horst, 84, of Midland, home on Wednesday, November 18, 2009. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, November 30, 2009 at First United Methodist's Glass Memorial Chapel in Midland, with the Reverend Macky Pitts, officiating. The family will receive friends in the church parlor after the service.George was born on May 21, 1925 in Aitkin, Minnesota, to Charles and Esther Horst. He grew up on a small farm in Minnesota, graduating from Aitkin High School in 1942. George went on to attend Minnesota University, where he was called away to serve in the United States Army, but returned to graduate with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1948. It was on September 11, 1948 that he married the love of his life, Beverly Swan, and moved to west Texas to work for Schlumberger Well Services. George and Beverly lived and raised their family in several small towns in west Texas, but settled in Midland in 1961. While with Schlumberger, George was a field engineer, location manager, sales development engineer and log analyst. He was employed by Schlumberger until 1982, 34 years. From 1982 to 1990 he was self-employed as a log analyst with 'Stratmap'. In 1990, he joined with, Tom McKnight to form 'Horst & McKnight', where he performed electrical log interpretations. George & Tom formed 'Union Royalty' in 1992 to do well exploration and log interpretations. George retired in 1995.He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Meta Marie Bekken, and a brother, Gerald Wilbur Horst.Left behind to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife, Beverly Horst; his two daughters and sons-in-law, Jill and Ken Dolloff of Midland, and Nancy and Steve Turner of Ruidoso, New Mexico; his two sons and daughters-in-law Jim and Debbie Horst of Greeley, Colorado, and Steve and Veronyca Horst of Austin; and also eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.George traveled extensively with his family. He was also involved in many organizations and his church, St. Nicholas' Episcopal Church and later St. Paul's Anglican Church. He held offices in the SPWLA and the West Texas Geological Society. He was involved with the BPOE, American Legion and the VFW. He did want it mentioned that he was a collector of JUNK, but it you knew him, you know that. George was an Honorary Life Member of the West Texas Geological Society. He received the Schlumberger Wildcatter Award. And his most treasured accomplishments were his 61 years of marriage and his family.'I thank my God every time I remember you.'
