George Donald Tays left his loving family on October 18, 2012 after a 6-month illness. He was born in Roswell, New Mexico on June 23, 1930 to William Samuel and Addie Pearl Sheldon Tays. George graduated high school in Roswell, attended New Mexico A & M and graduated from the University of Albuquerque (Cum Laude). He enlisted in the Navy October 27, 1948 (Navy Day) and retired in August 1971. He entered civil service in 1976 as a social security claims representative and retired from SSA in June 1992.George was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Melvin, Bill, and Raymond, and his sister, Florene.He is survived by his wife, Joyce Findley Tays of Midland; two daughters, Suzanne Shook and Rebecca Tays of Albuquerque; stepdaughter, Dianne and husband Chuck Frederick of Houston; stepson, Jackie Sawyer of Houston; 4 granddaughters; 1 grandson; 6 great grandchildren; and sister, Betty and husband Bobby Tucker of Midland.The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday, October 19, 2012 at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Resthaven Memorial Park.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
