In loving memory of Geoffrey Zay LeFevre, age 61, who was called to walk with the Lord on March 3, 2004. Zay was a graduate of Big Spring High School and of George Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. Zay earned all state honors in basketball at Big Spring High School and is a member of the Big Spring Hall of Fame. He has taught and coached all sports at the high school level for 39 years. He had just been inducted into the Coastal Bend Coaches Hall of Fame and has been nominated for the Texas High School Coaches Hall of Fame for the successful years as a head coach in the area. In 1976, Zay led the Ben Bolt Palito-Blanco Badgers to the state finals in football. He also has 4 district titles while at Ben Bolt from 1976 through 1979 and two district titles during his second stint from 2001-2003. Zay has also coached at other schools in Texas including: Eagle Pass, Crystal City, Premont, Vidor, Balmorhea, New Home, La Pryor, Johnson City, Robert E. Lee in Houston, Bruni, Aransas Pass, and Natalia. Zay will be celebrated as a loving family man and treated student/athletes as part of his own family. He is survived by his wife, Olga of 35 years; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Kari LeFevre and Jeff and Paula LeFevre all of Harlingen; his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Jimmy Calderon of El Paso, his mother and step-father, Zirah and Edwin Bednar of Big Spring; one who was like a son, George and Judy Gonzalez of Bruni; grandchildren, Loryn Renee Calderon, Chylee Shae and Richard Zay LeFevre; niece, Diana LeFevre of Godfrey, IL, Michelle Dixon of Searcy, AR and Laura LeFevre of Big Spring; nephew, Hilario Garcia Jr. and wife, Marnie, and Carter David, and several other cousins, nephews and nieces; aunt and uncle, Bonnie and Donnie Tubb of Big Spring; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henio and Santos Quintanilla of Tilden; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Hilario and Minerva Garcia, Robert and Norma Ortiz and John and Gloria Coward both of Jourdanton; sister-in-law, Kay LeFevre of Abilene and Nelda Boyd of Benbrook. Zay was preceded in death by his father, Richard Creighton LeFevre and two brothers, Wesley Leroy LeFevre and Richard Jay LeFevre. Zay will be buried by his father and two brothers at Mt. Olive Memorial Park in Big Spring. Funeral services will be held at his childhood congregation at 14th and Main Church of Christ in Big Spring on Saturday, March 6, 2004 at 4:00 PM with Rick Cunningham, minister, officiating with interment following. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Friday, at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Hilario Garcia, Hilario Garcia Jr., Pete Hornsby, Higinio Garcia, Noe Cadena and George Gonzales.
