Gene Shelburne, Jr., 82, of Midland, passed away on August 19th, 2007 at Midland Memorial Hospital. Services will be held on Thursday August 23rd at 10 am at Crestview Baptist Church, his church home of 53 years. A private interment will be held on Friday, August 24th at Resthaven Memorial Park.Gene was born and raised in Midland. He entered the Navy in 1942 after graduating from Midland High and was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii during WWII. After graduating Hardin Simmons University Gene joined his father, Gene Sr., in the moving business, owning and operating City Transfer and Storage, Inc., representing North American Van Lines here in Midland for almost 50 years until his retirement. Gene worked to build his community as a past president of both the West Side Lion's Club and the Midland Chapter of Gideons International. He was a charter member of Crestview Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, as a Sunday School director and teacher, and as an integral member of every pastoral search committee in the church's history. Gene was a fine Christian example to all who knew him. He was a devoted family man who dedicated his life to serving the Lord, his church, and his family.He is survived by his large and loving family: his wife of 60 years, Ruth Shelburne of Midland; three sons, Paul Shelburne and wife Alison Hanson of Albuquerque, NM, Richard Shelburne and wife Judy of Midland, and Kevin Shelburne and wife Debbie of Midland; three sisters, Dorothy Pattison of Midland, Faye Kerr of Richardson, and Lois Wallace and husband Bill of Knoxville, TN; eight grandchildren, Hunter, Sarah, Joshua, Caleb, Hannah, Daniel, Charles and wife, Stacy and Kristina; and two great-grandchildren, Kaden and Jaxon.He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Betty Shelburne, his stepmother, Jimmie Shelburne, and a granddaughter, Cherie.The family suggests gifts be made in memoriam to the Crestview Baptist Church Building Fund, 3300 Thomas, Midland, TX 79703, and Gideons International, 602 N.
