Our beloved Mimi and Mama went to be with Our Heavenly Savior on Wednesday, December 15, 2004. She was greeted at the gates of Heaven by her parents, brothers-Albert, Richard, Delvin and sister, Bonnie.Gayle Drachenberg Worthan, 65, was born July 21 in Lubbock, Texas to Ferdinand John and Alma Lucy Drachenberg of Smyer, Texas. She graduated from Smyer High School in 1957. Gayle was raised in the Smyer area until after graduation when she moved to New Deal and Abernathy. In May 1974, she moved to Big Spring where she raised all three of her children. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Big Spring. Gayle retired from the Howard County Clerk's office in October, 2003 after 25 years of service. She was a devoted employee, loved her Courthouse family and enjoyed her years of working with the public in Big Spring.
Gayle didn't belong to any organizations because her life was her children, her grandchildren and work. Before her health failed, she never missed a sporting activity, band concert or church event that any of them participated.
Gayle leaves behind a group of loved ones she adored, Marshall Bowers, daughters, Sonya Metcalf, Tammy Lockhart and her husband, Jack, and son, Rory Worthan and his wife, Cindy, all of Big Spring. Mimi Gayle cherished her 7 grandchildren, Morgan and McKenzi Metcalf, Clint and Clay Lockhart, Whitney and Drake Worthan of Big Spring and Chad Webb of Lubbock. She is also survived by three sisters, Pat Crume with husband Elwyn of Clovis, New Mexico, Freda Stephens with husband Wayne and Peggy Vanstory with husband Eugene, all of Lubbock, and sisters-in-law Juanita Drachenberg of Smyer and Beatrice Drachenberg of Wolforth. She is also survived by a great number of other family and friends who loved her dearly.
Funeral services will be held, 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 18, 2004, at the First Baptist Church, with Rev. Dennis Teeters, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday at the funeral home. Due to her love for music, the family suggests memorial donations be given to First Baptist Church Organ Fund, 705 W. Marcy, Big Spring, Texas, for the purchase of a new organ in the sanctuary.
